Feeling Chilly at Kodai

Like you cant miss the sight of the lake at Kodai, there is no way out for you ,not to notice the light green chillies tied like garlands in front of the bhajji stalls and hurricane and halogen lamps lighting the tiny stall-spaces that sell these Chilly Bhajjis . These larger than usual green chillies are dipped in besan flour paste ,deep fried in hot oil and served with red chutney .Needless to say that they are mouth watering… I have known about these fritters from a long time back. Growing up with two neighbours in Kolkata who were from two different states of the South, had its own...

Kodai

It was a tiny hole-in-the wall spot of a shop, shelves glistening with shelves full of sweet little things. There were chocolates with various fillings and flavours; fluffy marshmallows in rainbow-scapes, and gorgeous marzipan in shapes fancy enough to be pulled out of fairy tales. My twins are absolutely entranced, and I’m afraid they might never want to leave. “Ok…just any ONE flavour,” I almost plead, “and then we will go.” (I say that in Bengali to them, as that’s the only dialect my two year old twins understand currently!) I had just one evening to spare to experience food the Bangkok way..stand in front of carts, order what pleases the eye, and have the vendor create your dish right in front of you. Since my crisp little hotel was in Sukhumvit Soi 22, I ventured one evening walking from Soi to Soi, and stopped wherever my nose and...

Not a Cock & Bull Story: This Bangkok!

A place is often what you make out of it. It’s strange that when I was choosing a destination to break-away from the monotony of sound and being busy all the time, I chose Bangkok. I chose Bangkok, even when I knew that tranquility is probably not what Bangkok is famous for- rest of Thailand, perhaps,yes..but not Bangkok. Thailand- it’s well known for drawing in tourists, backpackers and sight-seers from all over the globe. There are bustling city streets, swanky upscale restaurants and popular amusement parks for families. But there is another side to Bangkok – a more personal side, a...

Cecilio’s Lamb Chops Scottadito

He called out for a plate of Lamb Chops Scottadito. And here’s the trivia: In Italian the word scottadito means burned fingers. This dish is named scottadito because the lamb chops are so delicious that you can’t resist eating them sizzling hot, straight from the grill and burning your fingers! To make these simple lamb chops, all you would need is: •    2 cloves garlic, finely chopped •    2 tablespoons chopped fresh rosemary •    1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil •    Sea salt and fresh-ground pepper to taste •    12 rib lamb chops In a small bowl stir together the garlic, rosemary,...
